Arts mentoring for offenders

The Koestler Trust

The Koestler Trust is the national charity that awards, exhibits and sells artworks by offenders. Its mentors are experienced artists, writers, producers and craftspeople who are trained to support people with experience of the criminal justice system, and who have a keen interest in the arts to develop their practice in the community.

Errol worked one-one to help offenders identify the goals they wanted to achieve in the arts, with regular mentoring sessions to realise these.

The scheme receives around 8,000 entries a year from a variety of criminal justice establishments across the UK – prisons, Young Offender Institutions, Probation teams, Secure Units, Immigration Removal Centres and secure mental health facilities.
