Rough and Ready Basketball – Respect must be earned

Rough and ready was more than a basketball tournament. Much more.

Staged in Brixton, South London, it ran from 1996 - 2003 and took place on the last weekend in May. The tournament showcased the very best young UK hoops talent, from British players on scholarships in the US to local street legends. Once a year, over 7 years, they all came to Brixton to play at Rough and Ready.

Staged at the Brixton Recreation Centre, Brixton, South London aka “The Rough House” Rough and Ready tournament highlighted the talent of the most exciting young players, and encouraged them to spread their wings for the Brixton crowd.

The invitation only tournament was always filled to capacity, and drew the cream of playing talent from the UK and those on scholarships in the United States. All profits were donated to charities such as the Stephen Lawrence Trust and Sickle Cell Anaemia Research. The goal was to encourage talented young players to give back to their communities where they developed their skills.
